Preschool (Ages 3-5)
Preschool is the perfect start for young children to learn Dutch in a playful, supportive environment. Welcome from age 3!
- Ages: 3-5 years (Petite, Moyenne, Grande Section)
- One morning per week (during regular school hours)
- Small groups with attention for each child
- Focus on speaking and listening
The program
In preschool, the emphasis is on language acquisition through play, songs, stories, and creative activities. Children learn Dutch naturally, just as they learned their first language.
Classes take place during regular school hours, in coordination with the French maternelle. This way, children get the best of both educational systems.
How are lessons taught?
- Learning through play. We sing, read stories aloud, and do crafts in a warm, familiar atmosphere.
- We work thematically so that language and play reinforce each other. Themes connect to young children’s world while also offering new experiences.
- Each week, children take picture books home to explore together with their parents.
What do children learn?
- Language skills: Vocabulary development, forming simple sentences
- Listening skills: Understanding stories, following instructions
- Cultural awareness: Dutch holidays, traditions, songs
- Social skills: Playing together, sharing, communicating in Dutch
Transition to primary school
After preschool, children are excellently prepared for primary school. They have a solid foundation in Dutch and are accustomed to the bilingual education system.
Children don't need to speak Dutch at home to start. Our teachers are experienced in working with children at all language levels.
