Nederlandse Afdeling - Lycée International

Primary School (Ages 6-10)

Primary (6-10)

In primary school, children build a strong foundation in Dutch: reading, writing, and speaking at a high level, alongside regular French education.

Key features
  • Ages: 6-10 years (CP through CM2)
  • 4-5 hours of Dutch per week
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and listening
  • World orientation

The program

Primary school combines intensive language education with culture and familiarization with the Low Countries. Children learn the same reading skills as their peers in the Netherlands, adapted to the French school rhythm.

Classes take place alongside the regular French curriculum. Children don't miss important French lessons – everything is carefully scheduled.

Curriculum by grade

CP-CE1 (Grades 1-2)

Focus on technical reading and basic writing skills. Children learn Dutch spelling and begin with simple texts. Introduction to Dutch children's books.

CE2-CM1 (Grades 3-4)

Reading comprehension and creative writing. Introduction to youth literature.

CM2 (Grade 5)

Preparation for middle school with attention to grammar, spelling, and longer texts. Introduction to Dutch history.

Français Spécial support

Children who enroll without French language skills follow the Français Spécial program. This ensures they quickly connect with their classmates.

Mid-year enrollment

Enrollment is generally only possible at the start of the school year (September). Please contact us to discuss your situation.

Activities and projects

  • Sinterklaas celebration with poems and surprises
  • King's Day festivities
  • Dutch Book Week with author visits
  • Projects on Dutch art and history

Student experience

I'm having a great time at the Lycée International. It's cool to be in two classes - my French class with children from many different countries, and the section class where we all speak Dutch. The lessons are very educational and fun, and during breaks we always play table tennis.
